Welcome to Wayne-Westland Community Schools Athletics. The athletic programs in WWCSD are an extension of the classroom. We stress the co-existence of academics and athletics and firmly believe you cannot have one without the other. Many long lasting life skills and friendships are developed during team participation.
About Wayne Memorial High School Hall of Fame
Wayne Memorial is soliciting new nominations for the Wayne Memorial High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The plaques were previously housed at Jake's, but will be relocated to Alumni Arena on the Wayne Memorial campus. Induction of new members will be held June 1, 2018. New nominations must be received by March 1, 2018.
More information regarding the re-dedication of the Hall of Fame will be posted on this site as we confirm details. Criteria for new nominations can be found on the link below. Please contact Greg Ambrose (email@example.com) if you have questions.
We hope that your son or daughter will find an opportunity that appeals to him or her and get involved. The following information pertains to the athletic opportunities currently available at our schools.
The online athletic registration is available for the 2016-17 seasons. All student athletes and their parents must complete the athletic registration electronically. No paper applications will be accepted.
All student athletes must have a sports physical performed by their physician after April 15, 2016 to be eligible to participate in athletics during the 2016-17 school year. The physical form must be dated and signed by the doctor, parent, and student athlete. We will accept the MHSAA physical form or your doctor’s sports physical form. The MHSAA physical form is available in our office as well as online on this page. Physical forms must be turned in to the main office. Coaches are not permitted to accept physical forms and students may not practice until the form has been turned in to the office. Please identify yourself as a Wayne-Westland student-athlete when making your appointment.
By its nature, participation in interscholastic athletics includes risk of injury which may range in severity. Although serious injuries are not common in supervised school athletic programs, it is impossible to eliminate the risk. Participants have the responsibility to help reduce the chance of injury. Players must obey all safety rules, report all physical problems to their coaches, follow a proper conditioning program, and inspect their own equipment daily.
Athletes are covered under their own home policies. The district does provide supplemental insurance to assist with costs from injuries that are incurred during practices or games that are not covered by a home policy.
Fall tryouts begin in early August. Winter tryouts begin in November. Spring tryouts begin in March. Tryouts for Fall Cheerleading will take place in the Spring. Watch WWCS Cable or check the district web site for further information.
All incoming (first time) ninth graders are immediately eligible for participation in the athletic program. However, to maintain eligibility an athlete must:
- have been enrolled no later than the fourth Friday after Labor Day.
- not have turned 19 before Sept. 1st.
- have had a physical examination on file in the athletic office (since April 15).

NCAA Eligibility Center
Many junior and senior athletes in line to receive athletic scholarships are discovering that they will be academically ineligible to participate in Division I and II colleges and universities because they have failed to meet the academic standards set by the NCAA Initial Eligibility Center. If you see any possibility that your son or daughter might want to participate in collegiate athletics, please check with his or her counselor for current NCAA Eligibility Center information.
